Verdun France
Dear Honey
Well still in Verdun and expect to stay here for sometime don't know how long, but think for a few months and maybe when we do move it will be homeward bound.  The people are now beginning to move back again into Verdun, but it is an awful place they have to go to though it will it will take years to rebuild it again.  Sunday instead of writing and it being such a fine day I took a walk out into the country away back of the camp up onto a high hill.  There I had a fine view of Verdun and the hills around My but it was great and I wish you could of been with me to see all the damage that the huns did.  Words can't describe it and I won't be able to describe either, tho I will do the best I can to do it when I get back.
I passed a big hospital and gave yard where the French&U.S. soldiers were buried.  I did not know any of the names on the graves.  There must have been at least 3 or 4 thousand graves in that one place tho there are gave yards scattered all over the hills around here.  Lately we have been making dough-nuts and when I get home, we will have some doughnuts.  Also we are getting acquainted with our old friend corned willy again. It is the first we have had for over four months.  The Y here is about the best I have yet run across.  You can buy anything you want chewing gum, cigars, and chocolate bars tec.  also they served hot chocolate all day long at the station FREE.  The other night I got a letter from Schaf and your no 119.  I don't think I will be allowed to keep my blanket after getting out of the army.  But I will be allowed to keep my uniform and other clothings.  Well I want to get a hair cut after dinner so I will have to hurry and eat my dinner and get over to the barber shop as the barber here is a very busy man.  Maybe I will have to wait all afternoon for it, but I need the haircut bad enough so will stop now and send my honey bunch all my love & kisses
