Dear Honey Wife
Rec'd four letter from you yesterday one from Laura, one from mother &Codi and one from Margaret.  Gee but I am alway glad to hear from the home-folks as it makes me feel a lot better and more like myself.  It is a long and tedious wait for the mail to come and we are alway looking for mail every-day.  How did Laura get over the operation?  I hope that she get better and be strong and healthy again.  Mother said in her letters to buy ice cream with the money she sent me, tell her that ice cream and other sweet stuff is a luxury and unheard of thing here, even in the large town and village, all they have to sell is wine-wine, but I don't fall for that dope.  The nearest to candy I get here is sweet chocolate bar and we get that at the YMCA once in a while.  They need all the milk, sugar, and eatable of that kind in the hospitals.  As much as I like milk I have not had a drink of it since I left the States.  I don't need it as bas as the boys that are in the hospitals.  I have written three letter to Schafer and am going to write again the afternoon.  I think he is only about 200 miles from our camp, according to the map.  About the same distance from Paris as I am.  I guess Schafer must be busy as I have had only one letters from him since I arrived here.  Am reading the book called Ben-Hur (a tale of the Christ).  It is a good book, but you must have a good knowledge of the bible and you can understand it better I have rec'd five one dollar bills and plan to keep them as long as I can maybe I will take them back home, if not I will save up and take a trip to Paris, but I must save about 35 or 40 dollars before I can go and be here for 6 months.  I was broke when I arrived here; but was paid Aug 13 and we get paid every month around the 10th.  You can't buy nothing to eat here only grapes nuts and cantaloupe but they are too high price.  I spend what little money I get for tobacco and toilet articles.  We got a Y tent now and some time this week they will be ready for business and  religious services.  I did not get the box of caramels from Mae&Willis but got the tobies OK.  Than Mae&Willis for the money for me, but I did not need it. Am keeping the two kerchiefs for the perfume that is in the one.  I sent the order for clothing in letter no 3 and hope you get it.  In this letter I am sending a French Calender and a message from King George Vth to the U.S. boys.  This paper I will return to you will my message and voered with kisses also with lots of love to my dear little wife,   From Her Soldier Hubby, Clarence
