Dear Honey
Was just thinking this afternoon at 3-30 what was going on this time last year. Can you remember back that far?  At first I got my date mixed up, but I finally got it straighten out.  I rec'd three letters this eve. One from my honey, one from Till and one from GeoA Zuck, the butcher at Chartier's North Side.  They all rec'd a post card from me and was glad to hear from me.  Also expect to hear from me again.  I said that we were drilling yesterday and this am we were still at it.  This afternoon we went to a thick wood and started to chop our way thru it.  One bunch cut the trees down another cut the branches off and the rest carried back branches and burn them, but we save the log to make the road with.  I was swinging the ax for a couple of hours and believe me I was sweating some, we would take turns at chopping.  We came back at 4-30 pm got was and had a battalion review at the drill ground, again we made a good showing of CoH.
The woods that we are clearing now about 15 acres is to be our drill-ground, but it will take a couple weeks of hard work to clear it off.  It is only about  two square away from our barracks.  When we go out each man has an ax and two men have a saw.  We had about  150 axes and 25 saws.  Them that did not have any tools carried the logs and burnt the branches.  I had some nut bread for dinner and was going to have some for supper, but it was turning green, so I would not take any chance at eating it although I was hungry enough to eat fifteen or twenty of them.  Our quarantine is up, but I am to tired to go any place, but will soon hit the hey about 9 pm.  Will answer Tillies & Geo letter as soon as I get time, maybe on Sat or Sunday. I wonder where my watch &cushion are.  I have not rec'd them yet.  Will close now with an ocean of love & kisses on the first year of our anniversary.  Was in bed last night at 8-30.   From your soldier Hubby
