Dear Honey,
Well here I am again with a whole day all to myself and I will now have more time to write to my honey bunch.  More good news have been promoted to Cook.  Work one day and off the next, the day I work I get up at 3-30 AM and work until supper is served about 6-30 pm and the day I am off I sleep until I am good & ready to get up altho I usually get up about 6-30 am.  Have been keeping a record of your letters from home but a few are missing.  Letters number 9-11-14-25-26.  They are liable to get here before long as the mail is very irregular.  I rec'd 15 letter in 3 days and believe me I was kept busy reading them got a letter from Mae & Willis written Aug 25.  I have not numbered my letters but from now on I will do so.  We have been moving here lately from the old barrack into better and warmer barracks getting ready for the winter.  I also have changed my sleep quarter moving in with the rest of the cooks.  You spoke about the wine here, but don't you worry about me, as I still feel the same way again drinking as I did at home and altho tobies & cigars are not very plentiful I smoke one or two cigarettes a day, but I mostly smoke my pipe and cigars when I get them.  Have had two pay days since arriving here we usually get paid the tenth of every month.  Last payday I got 64 francs and spent 60 francs for a pair of field-glasses.  They are very good for the money, have had offers to sell them for more money but I won't do it.  Also bought a pair of tan shoes, but will not pay for them until next payday.  will have to get the shoe resoled as they are second-handed shoes.  I bought them from one of the cooks.  The top of the shoe are very good but the soles are worn thru.  Paid 25 francs for them will cost me about 10 or 12 francs to get them repaired.  We have had lots of meat here lately.  All that we wanted and we cook meat for every meal that is the part of the cooking job I look after, cutting and cooking of the meat, nothing else.  I always cut my meat ahead of time so I can get it on the stove sooner and have it cook good.  Usually cook about 125-150 lbs a meal.  I rec'd all my mail here unopened also rec'd the writing papers chewing gums

No more is in this letter..  I'm sure it continued but it wasn't in the box.
