although the eats are served cold just now.  I took a walk up to the Y about one and half miles and got some cakes and HOT CHOCOLATE, the first I have had and was served by American ladies.  It was that first lady I had talk to since leaving the states.  I said in my last letter that we rec'd our gas masks but I don't think we will ever use them.  According to the paper the war will be over by the time you get this letter, but it will be some time before we will get home.  It will be some jobs to get there boys home and it will take time, don't expect to be home before spring.  We have a Salvation Army hut here and this is where I am writing this letter.  The two of them work to-gether and are far more accommodating than at the other camp.
I received my official appointment as a cook Nov 1 and am put on the payroll as such, the pay is more but I don't care about the money part, just as long as I do my bit in this war and get home again to my dear little wife, I will be satisfied.  I have better hours than at the other camp don't get up until 4-30 am breakfast at 6-30 am dinner at 12 noon and supper at 5 pm.  No place to go at night as we have to be in quarters at 845 pm and the boy usually go to bed about 7 to 8 pm.  The boys rustle up some cabbage and turnip adn we had a fairly good meal on them but no bread. Well this is the longest letter I have ever written so I had better quit now and will write more in a few daysLove and kisses from your Soldier Hubby
